THE 7 MOST RELEVANT PRODUCTS OF THE ANDEAN REGION - CULTURE VOCABULARY - 2025

The products of the Andean region of Colombia are very diverse, but those generated from agriculture, livestock and fishing are of greater importance. Many of the products are for local consumption, but also for export.

This region is among the world's leading exporters of products such as coffee or bananas. The tropical climate favors the planting of species to which the climatic conditions are favorable.

Also in terms of mining, the Andean region stands out for the presence of copper, gold, emeralds, iron, mineral coal and mineral salt, among other products.

1- Coffee

It is a product that is favored by almost everyone. It grows in soils rich in phosphorus, iron and magnesium, especially in volcanic soils.

2- Sugar cane

3- Banana

Banana exports are one of the most important in the world. Ecuador and Colombia participate in the export, mainly.

It is a product that is grown at various heights, from zero to 1500 meters above sea level. Its main buyer is the United States.

4- Pope

It is one of the main components of the diet of the Andean population. It is cultivated between 2000 and 3000 meters above sea level.

5- Flowers

Colombia is the second flower exporter in the world behind the Netherlands. Colombia exports 225 thousand tons of flowers per year, in 1600 varieties.

Chrysanthemums, carnations, roses, astromeliads, hydrangeas, anthuriums and heliconia are some of the most representative.

6- Cocoa

It is a tropical crop that is exported in whole or broken grains. It can be raw or roasted.

Besides Colombia, it is also exported by Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.

7- Avocados or avocados

The fruit of the avocado is a berry, of varied size, highly appreciated in gastronomy. Originally from Mexico, it is grown and exported in Colombia.
