The architectural drawings serve to detail all elements of a construction. This includes the plan view, cut details, and terrain elevation curves, among other things.
The architectural plans show the specific conditions of a terrain, its topographic characteristics and the conditions of the natural environment in which it is immersed, in addition to the details of the construction that is in process.
Depending on the type of construction, there are various plans that detail specific aspects of the work, such as the electrical wiring and the laying of water and gas pipes.
Architectural plans sometimes also include details on dividing spaces and inserting furniture, such as countertops and cabinets in a kitchen.
The 5 main functions of architectural plans
In all types of construction, be it a residential complex, a commercial building or a private home, architectural plans play an essential role.
1- They are the starting point of all constructions
Architectural plans are essential when designing a new construction. On these, the engineers and architects make the design sketches and evaluate the feasibility of the proposals.
After passing the design phase, the plan is fine-tuned to accurately reflect all the elements of the project, in terms of dimensions, spatial distribution and other fundamental characteristics.
2- Show location and terrain conditions
The plans are extremely useful with regard to the location of the construction, since they reflect the detail of the terrain conditions: obstacles, topography details, contour lines, among others.
In addition, they explicitly show the influence that the work exerts on the surroundings of the place, considering the final design of the work and the impact on the environment.
3- They detail the elements that are part of the work
The detailed architectural plan shows each and every one of the elements that are part of the project.
This includes the distribution of spaces, the placement of furniture (fixed or removable) and the interaction between elements.
The possibility of future modifications of the work is also expressed, either for the expansion or reduction of spaces.
4- They are a point of legal and financial support
Once the work is finished, the plans can be shared with official entities (mayors, governorships, among others) and all citizens could have access to them.
In that sense, they can be a graphic representation of an official nature, and are sometimes taken as a support point in the treatment of legal issues.
Plans are also an important point of reference when requesting financial support, in the case of projects that are under construction.
Normally, banks request copies of the architectural plans of the work in progress, in order to verify the description given by the person applying for a mortgage loan.
