The persuasive texts are those in which an author seeks to convince readers that your opinion is correct. Sometimes, this type of text is intended to make the reader carry out a certain action (attend an event, buy a product, among others). In other cases, you simply want the reader to consider the author's opinion.
For a persuasive text to be efficient, the author's point of view must be supported by factual data or facts. In some cases, the opposite point of view is also included, to show that the author has taken both alternatives into account.
This type of text is common in any area of human life. It can be found in casual situations: for example, when a son tries to convince his parents to give him permission to go to a concert.
It can also be presented in more formal contexts, such as political speeches that seek to attract followers.
It is necessary to highlight a particular case in which this type of text is used: advertising. Banners are filled with persuasive copy to ensure the product or service sells.
Examples of persuasive texts
There are persuasive text samples in any area of human life, from advertising to politics. Here are some examples of this type of text.
1- The Slimming Blend 980 gr Vitaloid
The Slimming Blend 980 gr Vitaloid is a meal replacement that provides all the necessary nutrients for a healthy diet.
It is one of the best protein shakes for weight loss available on the market, as it provides only 129 kcal per serving.
In addition to facilitating the loss of body fat, the Slimming Blend speeds up the metabolism and favors the development of muscle mass (favoring the toning of the body).
2- The Breville JE98XL juicer
The Breville JE98XL Juice Extractor is one of the most efficient juicers on the market because it consists of an 850 watt motor, a one liter capacity jug and is made of strong and durable materials.
In addition, the mouth of the extractor is wide enough so that fruits and vegetables can be inserted without having to cut them into pieces.
3- Advertising for "Colgate"
One of the promotional phrases for Colgate toothpaste is "eight out of ten dentists recommend it."
This is a persuasive line based on the confidence generated by the data and the opinion of the authorities in the area.
4- Advertising for "Coca-Cola"
In recent years, the Coca-Cola company has launched advertisements with the slogan "make someone happy." With this, the company is in charge of persuading users, selling its product as if it were bottled happiness.
5- Advertising of
"The Pantene Pro-V system with Pro-Vitamins and micro sealants aligns each strand to give you extreme smoothness even until the second day."
This advertising provides data of interest to the user. The fact that pro-vitamins and micro sealants are mentioned persuades people of the efficiency of the product.
6- Advertising for "Ariel"
"Better removal of stains in 1 WASH".
P & G's Ariel ads promote the product as one of the best on the market.
The persuasive element in this advertisement is not only found in the words used but also in the images shown, the comparison with other products of the same style and the testimonies of the users.
7- Excerpt from “A Bad Beginning” by Lemony Snicket
If you are interested in stories with a happy ending, you better read another book. In this one, not only is there no happy ending, there is also no happy beginning and very few happy events in between.
This is because not much happy things happened in the lives of the three Baudelaire boys. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire were intelligent children, and they were charming and resourceful, and they had pleasant features, but they were extremely unfortunate, and most of the things that happened to them were filled with misfortune, misery, and despair. I'm sorry to tell you, but that's how the story goes.
8- Excerpt from “The Hostile Hospital” by Lemony Snicket
This book tells of a particularly unhappy time in the ordeal of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, so if you are in your right mind, you'd better shut it down immediately, take it up a high mountain, and throw it off the top.
9- Fragment of “The Slippery Slope” by Lemony Snicket
The story you are now reading is nothing but frustrating and disconcerting, and the unfortunate people in it are more desperate and frantic than charming, and as for the animals, I'd rather not talk about them.
For this reason, I cannot recommend that you read this hideous book any more than I can recommend that you wander through the woods, because like the road less traveled, this book is likely to make you feel lonely, miserable, and in need of help..
10- “Just fun” by Charles Smith
A man from Phoenix calls his son who lives in New York the day before Thanksgiving.
-I hate to ruin your day, but I must tell you that your mother and I are going to divorce. 45 years of misery is more than enough. We can't even bear to see each other, we can't stand each other. To be honest, I don't want to talk about this anymore. So please call your sister in Chicago and tell her.
Angry, the son calls the sister who says:
-Than!? Yes of course! I got this.
The daughter calls her father in Phoenix and yells at him:
-You are not going to get divorced! Don't do anything until I've arrived. I'm going to call my brother and we'll be there tomorrow. Don't even think about doing anything until I get there, okay?
The father hangs up the phone and says to his wife:
-Everything is fine, darling. Yes they are coming for Thanksgiving.
