The most important economic activities in Nayarit are agriculture, livestock, fishing, the service sector and industry. These are the basic pillars on which this state is based today.
Nayarit also develops trade, although it is considered an area little used given the wide potential of the region.
Tobacco plantation
The tertiary sector, related to services, represents the main thrust of its economy, due to its little accentuated and sustained industrial development. In Nayarit, the services sector represents 60% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Apart from the tertiary sector, the main source of income for the state is tobacco. It has two of the largest tobacco companies in the country as a great economic engine.

1- Agriculture
Due to the situation and climatic conditions, agriculture is the basic economic activity in which Nayarit focuses.
It has a wide territory dedicated to a great variety of plantations that feed raw material to the factories of the region. Watermelon, tobacco, and mango are the main products grown in the state.
2- Livestock
The climate and general conditions also promote livestock in the region.
In Nayarit, poultry, as well as cattle, pigs and goats are raised especially.
3- Fishing
The coast of Nayarit, rich in fauna and flora, is one of the most important heritages in this area of Mexico.
Among the species that inhabit its waters are the bass, the lemon fish, the snapper, the striped marlin and the blue marlin, among others.
4- Services
Regarding its relationship with the state's GDP, it is the most important activity. It represents about 60% of this value.
Almost all the companies in Nayarit are small or medium-sized, and are mainly engaged in commerce.
5- Industry
Nayarit's factories are mainly focused on the primary sector. The sugar and tobacco industries stand out in particular.
