The h istory of Caracas begins July 25, 1567 when Don Diego de Losada founded the city and gave it the name "Santiago de Leon de Caracas".
The city of Caracas was founded after having dominated the indigenous resistance that was being led by Cacique Guaicaipuro.
Diego de Losada defeated Cacique Guaicaipuro, since he had an advantage in his favor: he had greater forces in arms and had the necessary means (horses) to be able to move and be more than the enemy.
The city of Caracas is the capital of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Colonial History of Caracas
Santiago
In the city of Caracas, the first steps of the revolutionary movements emerged that would later trigger the independence of Venezuela. Each of them will be detailed below.
On April 19, 1810, the citizens opposed the Governor of the Province, Vicente Emparan. He asked the people if they wanted his government and the people said that they did not follow the instructions of Father Madariaga.
Emparan, discontent, replied "I don't want the command either," and that day a new form of government was established in Venezuela.
On July 5, 1811, the Act of Independence of Venezuela was signed and the War of Independence began. In 1812 part of the city of Caracas was destroyed by an earthquake. However, the struggle for independence continued.
