WHAT ARE THE ELEMENTS OF A MONOGRAPH? - LITERATURE - 2025

The elements of a monograph are the title page, introduction, index, development, conclusion, notes, and bibliography.

A monograph is the writing of a research or documentary work, which can be presented as an explanatory or descriptive work.

Currently the monograph is considered one of the easiest ways to write an investigation, due to its characteristics such as accuracy, verification, impartiality, novelty and clarity.

It helps us with the handling of a large amount of information and in the skill of making a summary.

A monograph is a mental exercise, from the beginning of the methodological process, until the construction of hypotheses, information is adopted, new ideas are organized and new scientific knowledge is acquired.

Elements that make up a monograph

Every monograph must have a structure made up of a series of elements and mandatory parameters that consist of:

Cover page

It is a mandatory point in a monograph, since it synthesizes the content and must reflect the objective of the research.

In the first section of a title page, the title is presented followed by the date, place, name of the author, name of the advisor, name of the faculty or school, discipline to which the preparation of the monograph belongs and object of the research.

Introduction

It is where the presentation and purpose of the topic are indicated by means of a brief outline in paragraph form.

To write the induction of a monograph, the objectives of the work must be established, the information collected and analyzed, the interpretation of the results is necessary in the elaboration of the conclusions.

For example: write the conscience and the importance of this research for the life of the human being, in a paragraph of 300 words.

Index

It is the schematic organization of the work, by means of a list of subtitles with the number of pages, where it allows us to easily locate the specific points of the monograph.

The content of the work must be distributed among topics, subtopics, parts and chapters, sections and an organization in chronological order.

Development or body of research

It is where the topic is presented organized by chapters with subtopics and subtitles that have a specific order.

The presentation of the topic must have a minimum of 4000 words and a maximum of 8000 according to the rules of APA (American Psychological Association).

You can also have explanatory images and maps that are important for the development of the monograph.

Conclusion or closure of the investigative body

It is a review of the main ideas found in the statement of the problem. This part of the monograph is used as an exposition at the end of the work, but without adding new data.

Some opinions can also be expressed regarding reflection and analysis of the topic.

Notes

They are the citations and comments on the works established in the monograph, they can be written after making the conclusion with the title "Notes", numbering each one of them.

Notes are an optional item and in some cases can go to the bottom of the page.

Bibliography

It is the section where all the sources consulted to make the monograph are methodologically organized.

The bibliography is presented at the end of the writing, centralized, on a separate page.

The sources must go below another, they must indicate the name and surname of the author, city where the work was created, title in italics or underlined, name of the publisher and the year in which the work was created.
