The sayings with analogy are fairly common. An analogy is a comparison between two different things to highlight some point of similarity.
In this sense, the concept resembles the definitions of simile and metaphor. However, there are clear differences. Both simile and metaphor express figurative comparisons.
In the first case, they are explicit (your love is like a storm, for example). The metaphors are implicit comparisons as in: the gale of your love.
Now, the difference of these figures with the analogy is their purpose. An analogy is intended to explain or clarify some unknown or difficult idea or object by showing how the idea or object is similar to a familiar one.
In contrast, similes and metaphors are used to produce a certain effect or for emphasis.
