Some of the actions that can be carried out to protect the species are to reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers, purchase sustainable products and moderate the use of energy.
On Earth there are more than 8.7 million species, it is estimated that at least 10,000 species go extinct every year.
The species are the groups into which the genera are divided, they are composed of individuals that have in common characteristics by which they resemble each other.
It is this very thing, which makes them stand out from the other species. Also, a species can be divided into races, also into varieties.
The Living Planet Index (LPI) shows a decrease of 52% between 1970 and 2010, meaning that biodiversity has decreased by more than a quarter in the last 35 years.
Some of the priority areas in terms of species conservation are: Amazon, Madagascar, The Galapagos, Congo Basin, Coral Triangle, Eastern Himalayas, among others.
Activities to help the conservation of the species.
The decline in biodiversity and the loss of ecosystems is a global threat. There are some actions to protect the species.
1- Reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers in lawn care.
When these chemicals are used, the debris often goes into adjacent lakes and streams. This causes adverse effects for the plants and animals that live there.
2- The 3R rule.
Reduce, reuse and recycle, with an emphasis on the former. The more the demand for new resources is minimized, the lower the conversion of habitat for those resources.
In other words, the energy to manufacture the products we demand will decrease.
3- Buy wood that comes from a sustainable legal source.
Every year about 13 million hectares of natural forests are lost, the area is equivalent to Greece.
One of the main causes of this destruction is illegal logging, fueled by the high demand for the resource and the products that are manufactured from it.
Some analysts estimate that the international trade in illegally extracted wood products is around $ 5 billion per year.
It is recommended to ask where it comes from and verify that it has the label of the Forest Stewardship Council, FSC.
It is important to use recycled paper, you can save the equivalent of 24 trees per ton of paper.
4- Acquire seafood products that are sustainable.
80% of the world's biodiversity lives in the sea and the diversity of marine life is systematically eroded by overfishing.
Some of the trawlers destroy extensive seabed habitat in the process of catching fish.
5- Moderate the use of energy.
By restricting the demand for energy, it reduces the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which contributes to global warming, and the need to alter the fossil fuel habitat.
