Today I come with a list of the best Sherlock Holmes books, both by Arthur Conan Doyle himself and other later authors. This famous London detective from the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries, together with his beloved colleague Watson, has solved the most complicated, convoluted and surreal cases you can imagine.
Now, this would not be possible without its creator, Arthur Conan Doyle, a Scottish writer who would give it life for the first time in that winter of 1887. The fame of his first story would spread in such a way that it would lead him to produce a total of 3 more novels and 5 volumes of short stories, publishing his last book in 1927, three years before his death.
If you know of any other detective adventure that you like and it doesn't appear, write it in the comments and let me know. You may also be interested in this list of interesting books of various genres or this one of adventure books.

Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (1893)
In this book we can read another new batch of 12 stories.
As an anecdote, The Adventure of the Cardboard Box was initially removed from the US and English editions. The reason? It supposedly included topics that talked about adultery.
Finally, it would be published both within the set of stories belonging to His last greeting from the stage and in Memories of Sherlock Holmes, depending on the edition. Personally, I have chosen one where it appears in this book.
- Silver star
- The adventure of the cardboard box
- The yellow face
- The Stockbroker's Clerk
- The corvette «Gloria Scott» »
- The Musgrave Ritual
- Reigate's Squires
- The hunchback adventure
- The inpatient
- The Greek interpreter
- The naval treaty
- The final problem
The Return of Sherlock Holmes (1903)
Published in 1903, this set of 13 stories was practically an "obligation", since the protagonist had died in previous titles and his readers were crying out for the return of the detective.

A Study in Scarlet (1887)
Published by Beeton's Christmas Annual magazine in 1887, it is the first novel about the well-known detective.
The story begins with Dr. John Watson looking for housing. Fate unites him with Sherlock Holmes, a character with whom he will end up investigating a murder that will lead them to meddle in issues related to the Mormon Church.
This first book was not without controversy. Conan Doyle was strongly criticized by different members of the Mormon Church. The author himself, due to pressure, had to apologize.
The sign of four (1890)
The novel begins with Mary Morstan, a young woman who has been living for 10 years without hearing from her father, a retired military man.
With the death of a friend of Mery's father, valuable pearls begin to arrive along with a letter explaining that there is a person who knows where her father is.
After these events, the girl decides to enlist the help of Sherlock Holmes and his partner Watson to investigate the mystery.
The story unfolds through different settings, where treasures, action and mystery will envelop you throughout 140 pages.
The Hound of the Baskervilles (1901-1902)
The last heir of the Baskerville family comes to Holmes' aid.
On this occasion, the protagonist must discover the reason for the mysterious events that are prevalent with the family: a dog that has murdered each and every one of the Baskerville heirs for centuries.
The valley of terror (1914-1916)
Latest proper novel about Sherlock Holmes.
Published in Strand Magazine in 1914 and with a totally different style from previous works, the plot begins with the arrest of a murderer.
It is at that time when a flashback occurs that will tell the story of the murderer until reaching the present (something similar to Chronicle of an announced death by Gabriel García Márquez).
Written by other authors
Sherlock Holmes and the Camford Zombies, Alberto López Aroca
Story that happens just before Sherlock's retirement. A rejuvenating elixir is the reason it brings you back to action.

The figure of Sherlock Holmes has always been shrouded in mystery. The identity of their parents, the reason for their vocation, their love relationships, etc…
That is why Baring-Gould has created a biography of the famous detective in order to complete his information and know what we had no answer about before.
