The vegetation of Puebla is represented by jungles, forests, bushes and grasslands. The forests are almost 20% of the surface of the state, 17.3% of forests, 8.3% of bushes and 7.4% of grasslands.

1- Forests
The forests of Puebla have a great diversity. Among the main forests, there is the open and closed pine forest, with an approximate area of 98,499 hectares.
This is located in the mountain regions of the state in climates with an average annual temperature of 15 ° C, at an average altitude of 2500 meters above sea level.
There is also the open and closed coniferous forest, which has an area of 11,890 hectares.
It covers small areas of the Sierra Madre Oriental and some foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
Also noteworthy is the open and closed pine-oak forest, which has an area of 98,383 hectares. In this forest there are the genera Pinus and Quercus in different proportions.
It can be distributed in the vast majority of the mountains and mountain ranges of Puebla at average altitudes of almost 2000 meters above sea level.
The fragmented forest continues, which covers an area of 107,551 hectares and has forests with a temperate climate, the vast majority affected by agricultural activity. They are distributed over the territory in a homogeneous way.
Finally, there is the open and closed oak forest, which has an approximate area of 133,318 hectares. It is located mainly in the mountainous areas of the Puebla state.
It is the largest vegetative cover of the cold temperate and semi-humid climate areas. It is distributed in the areas of pine and pine-oak forests at low altitudes.
2- Jungles
As for the forests, there is an area of about 215,007 hectares of low forest, notable for having tree components whose heights range between 4 and 15 meters.
The evergreen, sub-evergreen, sub-deciduous, deciduous and low thorn forests are included in the forest species.
They are present in regions with annual temperatures that average 20 ° C. Medium-sized forests occupy an area of 3492 hectares and occur in dense and complex arboreal communities in their composition.
These correspond to the typical vegetation of sub-humid tropical climates.
3- Grasslands
The grasslands have a smaller extension, but basically supported by grass cover.
This coverage can be natural, induced or cultivated, and they are used almost entirely in the agricultural field. Its extension is distributed throughout the state.
4- Thickets
The bushes have a considerable extension of about 236,615 hectares. It is the vegetation cover of arid climates.
It is mainly divided into crasicaule bushes, whose vegetation is formed by large cacti that group nopaleras, cardonales and tetecheras.
There are also the rosetophilic desert scrubs that are typical of arid and semi-arid areas. They are made up of shrubs with large and elongated leaves, many in the shape of a rosette.
