The Indigo children, within the current New Age (New Age) are those with features that represent spiritual progress, ethical, psychological or empathetic, even paranormal abilities such as telepathy (Carrol, 2009).
They are classified into four different types (humanistic, conceptual, artist and interdimensional) and each of them is characterized by specializing with a specific purpose.
The main characteristics are summarized in special capacities for concentration or distraction, emotional sensitivity, physical energy, compassion, fear and other peculiarities.
The first hypotheses about indigo children appear around the 80s and came from different researchers in psychics and synesthesia. Although in recent years it is considered a pseudoscientific myth, special characteristics of children continue to be investigated under this same concept.
Origin
In the 80s, with the arrival of the “New Age” trend, the term “indigo child” began to become popular, a concept that referred to the advent of new generations with the ability to enrich human existence.
It anticipated the arrival of a human evolution embodied by the new children, who would have superior spiritual, mental and ethical faculties, and the ability to interact in different dimensions (Egil Asprem, 2013).
The term "indigo child" is believed to come from the experience of clairvoyants, who in the 70s claimed to see in the golden age of certain children, an indigo color (between blue and violet) shining on the first white layer.
In 1982, Ann Tappe, a psychic and synaesthetic by profession, conceived the compound term "indigo child" as such, popularizing it in her book "Understanding Your Life Throug Color" ("Understanding your life through color"). In this book, she theorizes that a new generation of children was being born with indigo-colored gold.
Then, in 1998, Lee Carrol and Jan Tober wrote "The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have Arrived" ("The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have Arrived"). There they repopularize the concept, arguing the conception of the term after a telepathic conversation with Kryon, an extraterrestrial entity (Carroll, 2001).
Indigo children characteristics
According to studies conducted by advocates of this concept, indigo children are characterized by:
- High aptitudes for creation and imagination
- Multi-tasking capabilities
- Tendency to low socialization for the enjoyment of its development
- Rejection of both family and institutional authority
- They are usually highly observant
- Developed intuition skills
- Emotionally sensitive
- Early development of interest in multiple areas of knowledge
- Absolute sincerity
- Sensitivity to the behavior of others
- Development of own codes of moral
Indigo children come to evolve and guide the rest of the world. They are characterized by detecting falsehood, lies, selfishness and the disinterest of the rest of humans, and are dedicated to avoiding falling into these complexities through honest acts and an emotional-rational balance (Witts, 2009).
They have a way of understanding the world similar to what we understand as "wise people", with the orientation of their objectives towards a better world, prioritizing harmony between people, protection of nature, world peace, love and human happiness.
They are distinguished by learning to speak, read, write and express themselves emotionally with a highly developed capacity from an early age. It is believed that they perceive themselves as special from a very young age and that they are capable of knowing their purpose in life (Intercontinental, 2010).
At the same time, they have difficulty recognizing that not all children have the same abilities. It is difficult for them to interpret that although they are capable of expressing themselves emotionally and artistically in an extraordinary way, the rest of the children cannot.
They are believed to possess reincarnated old souls, with wisdoms far more extensive than most mortals. The possibility is even contemplated that many indigo children have the possibility of experiencing memories of their ancestors and expressing them in textual words in the first person.
Types
According to their specific characteristics, four different typologies can be developed that define the purpose they have for the creation of a better world.
Humanists
It is about the indigo children who come to offer their evolution to develop a more evolved humanity in the world.
They tend to be hyperactive and sociable. They tend to interact with all the people around them in kind but sometimes awkward ways. They may have difficulty withholding simple commands, they tend to be easily distracted and especially with reading.
It is about the children who will soon be the ones who will handle the strings of the world from top management positions (politicians, corporate managers, teachers, executives, etc.)
Conceptual
Unlike humanists, conceptual indigo children are more physically athletic and much more controlling in their relationships. They tend to prioritize their projects over their personal relationships.
They are believed to be addicted, especially during adolescence.
These are children who will be oriented to conceptual professions such as engineering, architecture, and design.
Artist
They are clearly geared towards artistic expressions. They are very creative and emotionally sensitive. They direct all their tasks to creative development. They tend to multifunction, although they dedicate their specific attention for short periods of time.
They are the children who will be oriented towards artistic professions such as painting, musical creation and interpretation and acting.
Interdimensional
Within the typologies, the interdimensional indigo child is the most complex in its development.
They are children who develop personal autonomy from an extreme young age. From the age of 3, they already show signs of emotional maturity and are capable of surprising their environment with overcoming philosophical and spiritual reflections.
How to interact with indigo children?
Because contemporary educational institutions generally do not meet the basic needs for the correct development of these children, certain basic rules can be identified to relate and educate them:
- Always be honest: since it is its greatest strength, we must try to respect it.
- Treat them with respect and celebrate their presence.
- Give them enough options to make conscious decisions.
- Provide them with security and support.
- Don't pressure your futures and intentions.
- Avoid giving orders in the imperative.
- Establish and maintain clear but flexible limits.
- Keep the child informed of everyday affairs.
The relationship with Science
The presence of indigo children among us has not yet been scientifically proven. However, medically certain health dysfunctions are attributed to children with the aforementioned characteristics.
Most often, children with behaviors recognized as indigo children are diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder).
On the other hand, they could also be gifted children or who have been educated in environments with many stimuli and especially enriching.
