The lechuguilla (Agave lechuguilla) is a monocotyledonous plant belonging to the Asparagaceae family. Formerly A. lechuguilla was within the Agavaceae family. It is a small plant that colonizes the desert environments of northern Mexico.

Meanwhile, female S. interstitialis weevils lay eggs in the soft tissues of mature leaves. When the larvae hatch, they pierce the leaves to the root, where they become pupae. In turn, the adults emerge from the interior of the lechuguilla plants and feed on the leaves and even the roots.
Other pests that affect the lechuguilla are represented by the homoptera that cover the leaves; crickets and grasshoppers that feed on soft parts of the leaves, and rodents that feed on roots.
