11 EXAMPLES OF THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK TO UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT - CULTURE VOCABULARY - 2025

The theoretical framework examples serve to clarify the most relevant concepts on this fundamental pillar of research. The theoretical framework is in charge of collecting the different theories that will give rise to the variables obtained from an investigation.

That is, the theoretical framework consists of existing theories and concepts that, together with their definitions and references to important academic literature, have relevance to a particular study.

To develop it, many readings of courses and pertinent research studies must be reviewed and thus be able to analyze the theories and models relevant to the problem of the research being carried out.

The selection of a theory should depend on its appropriateness, ease of application, and power of explanation. A theoretical framework strengthens the study in different ways:

• It allows the reader to evaluate the theoretical statements.
• Connects the researcher with existing knowledge.
• It forces the researcher to face the questions of why and how.
• It helps to identify the limits of generalizations and variables that could affect the study.

By virtue of its applicable nature, a good theory is of great value precisely because it serves a primary purpose: it explains the meaning, nature, and challenges associated with a phenomenon so that knowledge can allow for more informed and effective action.

Examples of theoretical framework

1- Study on customer satisfaction

Thomassen (2003, p.69) defines client satisfaction as follows: "the perception of the client as a result of comparing, consciously or unconsciously, their experiences with their expectations."

Kotler & Keller (2003, p.60) are based on this definition, stating that "customer satisfaction is determined by the degree to which someone is happy or disappointed with the observed behavior of a product in relation to their expectations."

Performance that is below expectations leads to a dissatisfied customer, while performance that meets expectations produces satisfied customers.

Expectations that are exceeded lead to "a very satisfied or even pleasantly surprised customer" (Kotler & Keller, 2003, p.68)

The definition of Zeithaml & Bitner (2003, p.78) is slightly different from that of Thomassen:

“Satisfaction is the culmination of a customer's response. It is the judgment that a product or service characteristic, or the product of a service as such, provides a pleasant level of consumption completion. "

In this way, Zeithaml & Bitner's emphasis is on obtaining a level of satisfaction in relation to an acquisition.

Thomassen's definition will be used in the next study, given the importance of perception. This matches well with the offerings of Company X, which falls into the luxury category.

Although Zeithaml & Bitner (like Thomassen) say that customer satisfaction is a reaction to the experience gained and concentrated on a particular satisfaction, there is no distinction between conscious and unconscious comparisons in their definition.

Company X assures in its declaration of principles (see Chapter 1) that it wants to sell not only a product, but also a sentiment; as a result, an unconscious comparison will play an important role. In this way, Thomassen's definition will be more relevant to the current study.

2- Research on gender studies

Gender studies examine how notions of gender structures structure our realities.

Gender studies have been influenced by postmodernism, arguing that gender is not a fixed category, but rather a social construction.

Historians have used these theories to examine how genre construction has worked in the past and to what ends.

Feminist historian Joan Scott, for example, examines how gender discourse has historically served to build and legitimize gender hierarchies.

3- Thesis on Canadian federalism and the bloody system of government

The Canadian system of government is federal; this means that there are two distinctive levels of government representing the national and provincial arenas.

In the case of Canada, federal and provincial governments have been assigned specific responsibilities in the Constitution Act, 1982 (originally, the British North American Act, 1867).

One consequence of federalism is that the two levels of government share the same set of voters (that is, the same citizens who elect the federal government also elect the provincial).

This is much more important in a province like Ontario, which has the same lines as the federal government.

This in turn means that "citizens are expected to be members of, and loyal to, both the national community, represented in the national government, and the provincial communities represented in their provincial governments" (The Dynamics of Canadian Federalism, Robinson and Simeon, 1999, p.240).

This has been a historical problem. The delegates of the liner conferences and those of Quebec were concerned that a federal system of government would make the provinces "merely large municipal corporations" (Discussion by the fathers of the confederation in Unpublished Historical Documents, 1895, p.84).

In some ways, this statement ended up being true, as provincial legislatures became responsible for "local problems" (Centralization and Decentralization in Canadian Federalism, Stevenson, 1989, p.54,58).

4- Study related to anthropology

Cultural anthropology is the study of human cultures and seeks to understand how and why they work the way they do.

Anthropologist Victor Turner examines the role of rites of passage, as well as their cultural significance and function.

Historians have used his work to examine past events and their significance to those who participated in them.

5- Work on nationalism

Scholars of nationalism study how and why people come to identify as part of a nation, as well as the impact that the rise of nationalism has had in the past two centuries.

For example, Benedict Anderson famously referred to nations as "imaginary communities," since a nation is a community in which the vast majority of people will never meet face to face.

Or they will know each other, but nevertheless share a shared sense of identity based on nationality.

Many historians have used Anderson's theory to analyze nations and nationalism historically.

However, others have challenged Anderson's theory of how nations are created by examining the rise of nationalism in a variety of different historical contexts.

6- Study on drugs

The term “drug” is defined by the Mundopedia encyclopedia (2012) as “a substance that, among its various effects, produces a feeling of tranquility, excitement or induces a state of hallucination (seeing things that do not really exist).

Some drugs are used for medical purposes, such as morphine, necessary for the relief of severe pain.

However, the name of drugs is given to those substances that, like cocaine or heroin, produce a sensation of pleasure and can damage the body ”.

The Medical Encyclopedia (2016) defines the concept of drugs as follows:

Any substance of natural origin that, directly or indirectly, can be used for the manufacture of medicines. The substance responsible for the pharmacological effect of a drug is called the active principle.

A drug can be of plant, animal or synthetic origin. It can be a part or organ of a living being or a product obtained from the processing of said parts.

It is a substance with a chemical composition or a series of chemical substances that provide a useful pharmacological action.

According to the Encyclopedia of Young People (2015), drug addiction, for its part, is described as the dependence that can be generated in a living being on a chemical substance that alters the way in which its central nervous system and brain operate.

Doctor Jaime De las Heras points out in his book Study of Youth (2005) that the personality of individuals affects the propensity that one can have to consume a drug.

The most shy, apathetic, and curious about new sensations are the ones who most commonly use drugs.

7- Market research

The Marketing Society of America defines the concept of market research as that function that links the public, consumers and clients with the researcher, through identifiable data and the definition of marketing problems and opportunities.

This type of research grants certain tasks to the researcher, which can later be evaluated in performance indicators.

On the other hand, it is understood as a process of expanding knowledge of marketing. In other words, market research is defined as follows:

"Market research is the objective and systematic approach used to collect information and make decisions from marketing management."

For Santillana (2005), market research is a tool that facilitates the satisfaction of needs and the discovery of new product applications once certain opportunities are identified that allow the transformation of ways of life and daily needs.

8- Scientific inquiry

According to the National Research Council (2000), inquiry is defined as an activity that comprises multiple facets and involves the processes of observation, questioning, examination of texts and other sources of information, in order to be able to separate what is already you know what you want to investigate.

It is a process that is developed based on the evidence obtained from experiments, and the use of tools that allow the analysis and interpretation of data, the proposition of answers, the explanation of theories and the prediction of events.

For the Ministry of Education (2017), the inquiry process must be done through the use of the scientific method.

Anyone who will take part in this process must ask questions, design strategies, generate and record data, analyze the information obtained, and evaluate and communicate their process.

9- Biomechanics business in Mexico City

Biomechanics is a very important sector in healthcare, but practically unknown to the majority of the population. The main reason is undoubtedly the great misinformation that exists in society for various reasons.

Some are the technical and theoretical complexity, the limited number of trained professionals, the fact that it is a relatively young business or the economic interests derived from being a private business. Also, as is often the case, little media coverage further contributes to ignorance about this field.

Therefore, answering why in a city like Mexico City in the 1980s there were only two biomechanical centers and currently there are more than a hundred service points, is not an easy question.

10- Big Data in the National Football League

According to the compilation of the Federation of the National Football League, 50% of the clubs that make up the championship already use Big Data as the main tool to determine which player best fits their squad.

That is, the main figure when it comes to signing a footballer is this data tool, which evaluates with its extensive metrics the ideal profile that each team requires.

In the words of the president of the Vita Club, current League champion, "80% of the additions we made in the previous campaign were due to the metric recommendations of our Big Data system."

The use of this tool is a novelty in the organization chart of any company or club that adapts to modern football. The classic scouting department must shape its way of working to take advantage of the new opportunities that Big Data offers.

11- On the consumption of fruit juices

Fruits and vegetables are the basis of healthy eating in the food pyramid. Nutrition experts have reached this agreement, who consider its vitamin, antioxidant and mineral properties essential for the well-being of the human being.

What does not unite so much to food science is its consumption method, which can be solid (take a piece) or liquid (juice). This second method is the one that causes the most controversy, as some experts state:

“The smoothie of a fruit will never provide the same level of properties as if we take the fruit in a solid way. In this transformation, nutrients are lost, so the intake is empty and the only thing that contributes is to satisfy in an unhealthy way ”. Dr. Fernando Gamboa (2018).

However, the countercurrent argues that "within a healthy diet, natural juice continues to maintain almost all its properties, never being a system for the whole piece and not recommended if more than two different fruits are used to make the juice".

This dichotomy generates discomfort in the final consumer, who, according to a survey carried out in 2019 by the National Health Institute, 78% of people do not know what the properties of natural juice are.
