The population of Nayarit exceeds one million inhabitants. Nayarit is a Mexican state rich in natural resources and tourist attraction, in which socioeconomic inequalities and little development are the main weaknesses.
As far as tourism is concerned, the trend is positive. It is considered that this activity should become one of the priorities of the Nayarit economy given its favorable conditions.

Demography
Although the primary sector is fundamental for the economy, the urban centers of Nayarit concentrate most of the population.
Tepic, the capital, concentrates more than a third of all the inhabitants of the state. If the metropolitan area of the capital is included, the number of inhabitants is close to half of the total in the state.
Another of the points of great concentration of economic activity are the hotel complexes. However, the tourism sector in the region has not been very developed.
Reversing this trend is one of the challenges facing the society of this state of Mexico.
Socioeconomic characteristics
Today's societies face a problem of growing inequality. Nayarit is no exception.
In this region there is what is known as social divergence. Instead of there being a rapprochement between the different socioeconomic classes of a country, city or province, they experience a distancing.
This trend is usually more pronounced in areas with a large presence of the rural economy. Such is the case of Nayarit.
An exception to this inequality is the areas where tourism acts as a catalyst for the economy.
However, the distribution of wealth tends to be uneven in most areas far from cities.
The concentration of economic powers in the most urbanized areas follows a global trend. In Nayarit, this concentration occurs mainly in its capital, Tepic.
In regions such as Del Nayar, La Yesca and Huajicori, which cover 42% of the state's surface, there are unfavorable conditions. These regions have an abundant indigenous population.
