Some of the most popular typical dishes of Quito are locro de papa, figs with cheese, sanduche de pernil, canalezo or tamales.
Ecuador is distinguished in Latin America for having a very traditional gastronomic offer. The availability of different native products such as various fruits, vegetables and grains enriches the diversity of typical dishes per region.

Quito is internationally recognized as the gastronomic city of the country and commonly called "the melting pot of Ecuadorian gastronomy."
Quito's cuisine has its origin in pre-Hispanic times, evolving in the colonial period and later in the republican period.
Today it integrates current culinary techniques while firmly maintaining its foundations, combining in this way custom, history and flavors of its land.
List of the 10 main typical dishes of Quito
1.- Locro de papa or locro Quito
A creamy potato and cheese soup that can be served with avocado or also known as avocado, toasted corn and chili.
Its preparation has many variations, although the essence of the flavor is the potato chola.
2.- Figs with cheese
Fig dessert cooked in papelón or panela honey.
When serving they are accompanied with a piece of cheese.
3.- Pernil sandwich
Sanduche prepared with pork leg and cooked in a wood oven over low heat, it may or may not be seasoned.
4.- Dry goat
It is a stew prepared with goat or kid meat, slowly prepared at a low temperature in a garlic sauce, cumin, onion, bell peppers, tomatoes, chicha, coriander, orange juice, panela and different seasonings.
What defines its flavor is the orange, panela and a touch of beer.
5.- Baked
Pork seasoned with garlic, cumin and soaked with beer or chicha. It is cooked in a wood oven for many hours.
6.- Frying
Pork fried in its own fat. It is usually served with potato tortillas or whole boiled potatoes.
7.- Tamales
Also called "humitas", they are prepared with sweet corn, eggs, onion, cheese, garlic and cream.
They are prepared in a steam pot wrapped in corn husks.
8.- Soups
Variety of soups make up the traditional menu of Quito.
Some such as quinoa soup, barley rice, sancocho and potato broth, the latter being prepared with toasted beef leg, mote and crushed golden peanuts.
9.- Yahuarlocro
It is a blood soup and is prepared with potatoes and some organ meats such as liver, stomach, booklet and lamb lungs.
It is usually presented with salad, rice, and avocado (avocado).
10.- Canelazo
Finally the canelazo, although it is not a dish.
It is a hot drink prepared with cinnamon and brandy, typical in Ecuador for celebrations in December.
According to the Ecuadorian writer and poet Julio Pazos in his publication 'The taste of memory: history of Quito cuisine', canelazo was a very popular drink among the aborigines and mestizos during the republican period and drinking it was a way to endure the cold.
These dishes are usually accompanied with other typical drinks such as morocho, mistela, rosero and a variety of craft beers.
