1- German Arciniegas
He was born in Bogotá on December 6, 1900 and died in 1999. He was a prominent essayist, diplomat, historian, and politician, who began his journalistic activity at a very young age. He also founded and directed numerous cultural magazines.
2- Roberto Bolaño
He was born in Santiago de Chile on April 28, 1953 and died in Barcelona in 2003. This Chilean writer and poet was the author of more than 20 books and numerous essays that made him the recipient of several international awards.
These awards include the Herralde Award (1998) and the Rómulo Gallegos Award in 1999.
3- Jorge Luis Borges
Borges Acevedo was born in Buenos Aires on August 24, 1899 and died in Geneva in 1986.
He was a prolific and scholarly writer who ranks among the most prominent authors of 20th century literature. In addition to his famous novels, he published short essays, poems, and stories.
4- Augusto Monterroso
He was born in Tegucigalpa on December 21, 1921 and died in Mexico City in 2003. He became a Guatemalan citizen and is known for his short stories.
He is considered one of the masters of mini fiction. He was possessor of a great narrative capacity.
5- Arturo Úslar Pietri
He was born in Caracas on May 16, 1906 and died in 2001. He was a writer, lawyer, journalist, television producer and politician.
He is considered one of the most important intellectuals of the 20th century.
6- Mario Benedetti
He was born in Paso de los Toros on September 14, 1920 and died in Montevideo in 2009. He was a journalist, writer, poet and playwright who was part of the generation of 45, along with other great Uruguayan letters such as Juan Carlos Onetti and Idea Vilariño.
7- Juan Maria Montalvo
He was born in Ambato, Ecuador, on April 13, 1832 and died in Paris in 1889. He was a renowned liberal-minded novelist and essayist.
Among his most outstanding essays are: Seven Treatises (1882) and Moral Geometry (1902).
8- Sergio Ramírez Mercado
He was born in Nicaragua on August 5, 1942. This writer, journalist, politician and lawyer was vice president of that country between 1985 and 1990.
For his literary work he was awarded the Cervantes Prize in 2017.
9- José Julián Martí Pérez
He was born in Havana on January 28, 1853 and died in 1895. He was an active political and democratic thinker, as well as a journalist, poet, writer and poet.
He was a representative of the literary movement of modernism and is the creator of the Cuban Revolutionary Party.
10- Octavio Paz
He was born in Mexico City on March 31, 1914 and died in 1998. This essayist, poet, and diplomat won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1990.
He is considered one of the most influential writers of the 20th century and also one of the most prominent poets in Hispanic literature.
