The main economic activities of Jalisco are agriculture and livestock, the textile and food manufacturing industry, the chemical and steel industry, and services.
Jalisco's economy is one of the most prosperous and important in Mexico. The production and marketing of cosmetics, electronic equipment, textiles, footwear, food, tobacco, sporting goods and beverages stand out.
Only in 2015, Foreign Direct Investment in the state was approximately almost three million dollars, an amount that represented 8.8% of the national productive income.
In the services sector of the state of Jalisco, banking, the stock market, insurance, and tourism have been growing steadily, due to the progressive increase in foreign investment in recent years.
According to official figures for 2015, Jalisco is the fourth state that makes the most contribution to the national Gross Domestic Product, with a participation of 6.47%.

1- Agriculture
The state of Jalisco is the largest producer of corn in Mexico and is one of the most important producers of beans, dried chili, onion, chickpea, tobacco and agave or maguey, for the production of tequila and food.
The degree of development and technification achieved in this sector has allowed this entity to increase its productivity.
Agriculture is a very important economic activity in this state. The state has an area of 1,721,153 hectares planted, which occupies 21% of the total area of the entity.
2- Livestock
The cattle ranch also has a high development, to the point that Jalisco appears as the largest producer of milk and poultry in the country.
It produces cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. Likewise, the state produces honey from bees.
There are a total of 104 718 registered ranchers, who are dedicated to the intensive exploitation of this sector.
The herd of bovine cattle is estimated at 810 thousand head, of which 270,000 are dairy cattle and 230,000 are replacement heifers, steers and calves.
3- Manufacturing industry
This sector includes productive activities in sectors such as the steel industry, the mechanical industry and the textile industry.
The chemical and technological industries (electrical and electronic equipment), food and beverages, vehicle construction and assembly and the publishing industry, among others, also stand out.
The manufacturing industry is the second most important sector of the Jalisco economy. By 2012 this sector had 333,366 formal workers employed. In 2011 it generated revenues close to 12 billion pesos.
4- Tourism
Tourism in the state of Jalisco has had a strong rebound in recent years.
In 2016 Jalisco received more than 16 million visitors in its main tourist areas: Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Sur de Costalegre, Rivera de Chapala, Tequila, Zona de los Altos and other places of interest.
5- Foreign trade
Jalisco's exports have diversified both in products and markets, the most relevant sectors being food and beverages, textiles, toys, auto parts, tequila, electronics, films, footwear, agricultural products, and iron and steel.
Its access to the Pacific Ocean coast and the port infrastructure of Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta, allow it an advantage for trade with Asia.
6- Services
The Jalisco service sector is the one that generates the highest number of jobs in the state, according to the figures provided by the 2014 National Occupation and Employment Survey (ENOE), prepared by the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics (INEGI).
Financial services (banking and stock market), communications, transportation and communications, among others, stand out.
