The climate of Campeche is warm type, humid and abundant rainfall in summer. These characteristics are conditioned by its geographical location.
Campeche is located within the tropics and receives maritime influences from the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.
The distribution of rainfall over the territory determines the characteristics of the terrain: in the southwest, which is the rainiest area, there are numerous streams, water reservoirs and lagoons.
Although Campeche is in the Gulf of Mexico, the presence of hurricanes is unusual. This is due to the greater protection of its coastline compared to other more exposed areas.
Nor are frosts common, due to the fact that average temperatures are generally high.

Main features
Campeche has a typical tropical Caribbean climate with small variations typical of the area.
There are abundant storms and concentrated rainfall in the summer, warm and constant average temperatures throughout the year and the absence of frost and snowfall.
Temperatures
The distribution of temperatures in Campeche is regular throughout the twelve months of the year. The average annual temperature is 27 ° C.
The maximums are normally registered in April (27.9 ° C) and the minimums in January (26.8 ° C).
This scarce variation, just one degree between the warmest and the coldest months, is due to its location within the tropics.
Precipitation
Campeche has a humid climate with abundant rainfall in the summer months. Thus, from June to November rainfall can exceed 2000 mm in some areas of the south of the state.
On the other hand, between December and March it is difficult for significant rains to be recorded. Average rainfall in the first months of the year may not exceed 6 mm.
Other atmospheric phenomena
As mentioned before, although the coastline of Campeche is in the Gulf of Mexico, the presence of hurricanes is not frequent.
The Gulf of Mexico is sadly famous for the constant and virulent incidence of this phenomenon.
However, the coastal zone of Campeche is more sheltered and hurricanes hardly direct their path towards it.
Due to the high temperatures that are registered throughout the year, there is no snowfall or frost.
It is practically impossible to find a winter in which the temperatures drop below 22 ° C.
The impact of the climate on the ground
As in any other region of the world, within Campeche there are different subclimates.
For example, in the lands of the north of the state (in the area of the Yucatan peninsula) rainfall is less abundant.
For this reason, this area has a warm semi-dry subclimate. In contrast, the south of the state registers a greater volume of rainfall during the year.
This rainfall can exceed 2000 mm. This area has a hot and humid tropical climate.
Climatic differences influence the quality of soils and their suitability for agricultural use.
The economic activity of each subregion in the state of Campeche depends in part on the subclimate by which it is affected.
