The goods and services are two of the basic elements of the economy, since these two are part of the economic circuit. These two elements are similar in that they are offered by the producer apparatus (the company) in the markets. From markets, consumers purchase goods and contract services.

Also, both are intended to satisfy a consumer need. In addition, they also agree that they are scarce, which gives them value while increasing the opportunity of being sold.

At this point, economic goods and services contrast with free goods, such as air and seawater, which are abundant and therefore cannot be traded. For their part, the difference between these two elements lies in the materiality of the goods and the immateriality of the services.

Goods are material, they can be touched, seen, used and consumed. On the other hand, services are immaterial, they cannot be seen or touched, but the effects they generate on consumers can be felt; refers to the set of activities and actions that is carried out to satisfy the needs of an individual.

Economic goods are those that due to their scarcity in nature, can be traded in markets. These are material goods that meet the needs of consumers. Some examples of assets are:

Food is one of the main goods consumed since it guarantees the existence of human beings. Goods of this type can be classified into capital goods and consumer goods.

Capital goods are those food products that the company uses to make other more elaborate products.

For example, corn is a capital good, since it can be processed to give rise to other products: corn flour, toasted corn flakes, popcorn, among others.

Consumer goods are those finished products that can be purchased directly by consumers.

For example, popcorn and cornmeal are consumer goods. If corn is available in markets, it can also be a consumer product.
